The Ankle Lock Paradox
WNO 32: Ankle lock = 24 attempts (40% of all attempts in the event). 1 finish. 4.2% rate.
RNC: 5 attempts. 2 finishes. 40% rate. 10x more efficient per attempt.
Why so many ankle lock attempts? Entry is accessible from almost any scramble / leg entanglement.
Athletes may be using it for position control, wrestling up, and sweep threat — not just finish.
2024 annual: ankle lock #5 by total finishes (25 fins). Volume × low rate = bulk of finishes.
Practical implication: if you want finish efficiency, RNC. If you want volume leverage, ankle lock.
This attempt vs finish gap is the central tension in modern leglock meta.
